Our family just returned from a magical holiday at Veligandu Maldives, and we are already dreaming of going back. The island itself is breathtaking—truly a slice of heaven on earth—but what really took our experience to the next level was the incredible service. We have to give a massive shout-out to our Lifestyle Host, Sissy. She was absolute perfection from the moment we arrived until the moment we waved goodbye. Traveling as a family can sometimes come with extra logistics, but Sissy handled every single request with a smile and incredible efficiency. Whether it was organizing dining reservations, arranging activities for the kids, or just ensuring we had everything we needed in our villa, she was always one step ahead. Sissy didn't just do her job; she poured her heart into making our holiday feel personal and special. Because of her, we could actually relax and focus on making memories together. Thank you, Veligandu, and a huge thank you to Sissy for being a superstar! On another note, everyone else from the staff was amazing too! Special shoutout to Isaac, Awi and Adam from the restaurants/bars! 😊

My wife and I just got back from two weeks at Veligandu for our honeymoon and one-year anniversary, and I'm already looking at flights back. That pretty much says it all, but let me say more anyway. The island is stunning - private, well-kept, and so quiet that you decompress within hours of arriving. We snorkeled the reef almost every single day and it never got old. Sharks, stingrays, more fish species than we could name. After a while it just becomes part of your routine, which is a pretty great problem to have. The villa was beautiful and well designed. We fully unwound, which was exactly what we came for. The spa is excellent. Some of the best massages of our lives. We left each session feeling completely restored. The staff, though, are what will bring us back more than anything. Julia helped us day-to-day throughout our stay and was brilliant - warm, sharp, and always somehow already ahead of whatever we needed. Lakmal at the restaurant made every single meal feel personal and special. Nadeesha at the bar was a highlight of our days spent relaxing there. We came home with so many good memories of the people here, from so many different moments. The whole team was just wonderful. Whether you're celebrating something big or just need a proper reset, this is the place. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

Just 20 minutes from Malé by seaplane, which is both convenient and often direct. Speedboat transfers are also available (approximately 1.5 hours). Located in the North Ari Atoll, renowned for dramatic wall dives and pelagic marine life (including manta rays and sharks). A beautiful island, perfectly sized—easily walkable end to end in around 10 minutes. It has a unique cactus-like shape, with the eastern side facing uninterrupted ocean views and the western side looking inward toward the atoll. Expect completely unobstructed, dramatic sunrises and sunsets. A relaxed yet premium feel throughout. The November 2024 refurbishment is still very evident, with a polished finish across the resort while maintaining a lush, natural island vibe filled with vibrant vegetation and pristine beaches. As with many Maldives resorts, guests tend to keep to themselves, coming together mainly for dining and evening entertainment (there is something on every night at the main bar). We stayed in an Ocean Pool Villa (one of the newer categories), and it was flawless—modern, spotless, and finished to a very high standard. Housekeeping was excellent, with twice-daily cleaning. We also viewed an Ocean Pool Villa Sunset, which is slightly larger, though our villa was already more than spacious enough. In summer, sunset-side villas are ideal for spectacular sunsets. If you prioritise reef access, sunrise-side villas are better. In off-season, I would strongly recommend the sunrise side. Weather systems tend to come from the west, bringing wind and occasional horizontal rain that can limit terrace use on the sunset side. Waves are also stronger there. Having stayed at Hurawalhi (Veligandu’s sister resort), we arrived with high expectations for the food. The à la carte restaurants are excellent. Staff are friendly, attentive, and happy to tailor dishes. Presentation is also very strong. The buffet was good, but not as memorable as expected and a step down from Hurawalhi. While there is plenty of choice and food is well cooked, the ingredients felt less premium than anticipated. Meat cuts were on the cheaper side—we would have preferred higher-end cuts or larger joints. Seafood selection was limited; even on fish night, variety was lacking. Some repetition across dishes. Fruit selection was mostly standard UK-available fruit—an exotic destination calls for more exotic options. Themed nights could be improved with stronger culinary identity, more live cooking, and greater visual impact. Marine life is outstanding: turtles, reef sharks (blacktip and whitetip), eagle rays, stingrays, octopus, eels, and abundant fish life. We even saw dolphins while snorkelling (rare but possible). Keen observers may also spot lionfish, stonefish, and lobsters. Visibility varies in the off-season but can be excellent, especially in the mornings. The reef is significantly better on the sunrise side. From the Ocean Pool Villas, you can reach the reef edge within minutes. A highlight: drifting with the current along the reef’s length and exiting at the southern end before looping back to the main bar for a well-earned drink. The staff truly make this place exceptional. Huge thanks to Faheem, our island host—friendly, funny, and incredibly attentive. He made our stay genuinely special and continues to send us updates and photos of marine life around the island. Our housekeeper was fantastic—spotless room, creative towel and palm displays each evening, and consistently attentive service. Special mention to Chef Hadi at Madivaru—our favourite restaurant. Warm, engaging, and full of thoughtful touches, including surprise dishes and extra portions of his excellent wonton soup. Our final evening was unforgettable, with a private beach table setup that was genuinely magical. Thanks also to the wider team, including Swamy and Aiganym, for their excellent service. Over our 11-night stay, we left feeling sad to go but extremely satisfied and wanting more. The island offers plenty if you make the most of it! Definitely would return!!!
